Two-time champion of Minas Gerais Downhill Cup, Robert Costa, is from Passagem de Mariana

    On April 6th and 7th, 2024, in the city of Ipatinga, the second edition of the Minas Gerais Downhill Cup took place, a competition approved by the Minas Gerais Cycling Federation (FMC). The winner of the race is a resident of Passagem de Mariana, athlete Robert Costa, 25 years old, two-time Downhill champion from Minas Gerais.

    The race was held on a 1.9 km long track, considered one of the most difficult on the circuit, with ramps and winding sections. The competition brought together 150 athletes from Minas Gerais and counted points towards the state ranking of the sport.

    Robert Costa shares a little of his experience and the importance of the Copa Minas: “It is a race that moves Downhill in Minas. I’ve been participating in the competition for 10 years and it was a great feeling. I didn’t expect to win it, as I wasn’t 100% (physically).”

    Robert describes the feeling of overcoming intense heat as one of the biggest challenges, highlighting the importance of hydration and physical preparation to achieve victory. “The race was good and I managed to set a great pace. The biggest challenge was the weather , it was quite hot, I hydrated well before and during the race.”

    The athlete says that it is a pleasure to represent Passagem de Mariana and bring the title to his district, repaying the investment made in him by the of Mariana City and the “New Order Bikes” team, who contribute with their training, equipment maintenance and trips to to compete.
